Matthew Boyd is an attorney working out of the Firm’s Northeastern Pennsylvania offices. Mr. Boyd’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation. Mr. Boyd represents clients in both the public and private sectors and has extensive civil litigation experience in state, federal and appellate courts, including the defense and prosecution of complex constitutional claims. He defends and prosecutes administrative, trial and appellate actions focusing often on discrimination claims brought pursuant to Section 1983 of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the American Disabilities Act, Title VII, the Rehabilitation Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Act and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.
In addition, Mr. Boyd regularly represents corporations and private individuals in complex business and partnership disputes, zoning and land use issues, and employment matters. Mr. Boyd serves as litigation counsel to numerous public entities, major health care providers, national banks, insurance companies, school districts and labor unions.
Recently, Mr. Boyd has successfully defended the wealth management arm of a national bank against claims brought by former clients and a business owner against claims brought by business brokers and investment bankers related to the sale of his company.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Boyd served a three-year Judicial Clerkship with the Honorable Richard P. Conaboy of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. During his clerkship, he worked on a wide range of issues, including complex commercial litigations, civil rights, insurance, and employment matters. Prior to his clerkship, Mr. Boyd worked for a New York based law firm where he counseled and represented small to Fortune 500 employers in a variety of labor and employment- related contexts. He has authored several articles and has given numerous presentations and training seminars on employment issues.
Mr. Boyd received his J.D. cum laude from Villanova University School of Law. While at Villanova, he was the Board Administrator of the Moot Court Board and served as the Production Editor for the Villanova Journal of Catholic Social Thought. Prior to law school, Mr. Boyd graduated summa cum laude from Marist College with B.S. in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and International Business.
Mr. Boyd is a member of the Bar of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the State of New York. He is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Northern, Southern and Eastern Districts of New York as well as the Middle and Eastern Districts of Pennsylvania, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Lackawanna County Bar Association.
In 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016, Mr. Boyd was recognized for his accomplishments by being selected as a Pennsylvania “Rising Star”. Each year, no more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in the state are selected to receive this honor.
Mr. Boyd and his wife, Ellen, live in Clarks Green with their two sons, where he is heavily involved in the local baseball, football and basketball leagues.
